For the fifth day in six days, my school is shut. It was great to start with, but I like Tuesdays!
Last Monday there was snow, so, like most other schools in the county, ours was closed. Then at lunch time on Tuesday we were sent home because there had been a powercut at school and the surrounding area. Acoording to the newspaper, the local area had power back later that afternoon, and school had power at 10.30pm. However, schoolw as sut on the Wednesday because parents had already arranged childcare for that day. When we finally got a whole day at school on the Thursday, we discover that we don’t actually have power back, but a whopping great petrol-guzzling generator sitting in the car park. At least we had power. For a day. On Friday the generator broke and would take a few hours to fix. This meant, as soon as we got to school, the bus turned around and took us home. What heard on Monday of this week was that a sixth form student had pressed the emergenecy stop button on the generator, but I am not sure if this is true or not.
And then today. The generator has broken again. Surely 7 days is enough time to fix the power? EDF were working at school on Thursday, but I saw no signs of them yesterday, just lots of wires and a big hole in the road next to our little sub-station.
I blame the French.
