Poverty

October 14th, 2008 · No Comments · Important Stuff, The World

October fifteenth 2008; Blog Action Day. I didn’t take part in this last year, so I will do this year.

I don’t really know what to write about, other than ‘it is terrible and we need to put an end to it’, but alas, that won’t do.

Even if we, the general public, can’t afford to go over to the third world countries and help out, get supplies, make sure every one is sufficiently nourished, we could at least all do something small. After all, it would all add up eventually.

I remember a few years ago there were loads of different wrist bands for different causes costing about a pound, and then all of the money would go to charity. It was a great idea; young people all went out and bought one (they seemed to be quite fashionable at the time), and at the same time they were helping a worthy cause.

But, like most things, they seem to have fizzled out all together now. There needs to be another way to get people of all ages aware of the devastating suffering going on around the world. We just carry out our normal lives, with food always on the table; water in the tap, while others are going for days without food, and walking miles each morning for water that is not fit for drinking.

People keep talking about poverty and its devastating effects, the same with other serious matters like global warming, but nothing drastic ever seems to happen about them.

In my opinion, I think the only way to make people truly understand what it is like to live in poverty, is to live in poverty. Unless people don’t start to see the consequences of it, then more innocent people will start to become malnourished, and get diseases like Kwashiorkor and, ultimately, die.

Okay, so that was my two cents. Hopefully the rest will be much better.
